General Information
The Advanced Seminar in Objectivist Studies is a meeting of advanced students and scholars of philosophy and related fields focusing on the discussion of new scholarly writings in the context of Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Its purpose is to encourage the refinement and publication of writing on and about Objectivism.

The basic format of the Advanced Seminar is a moderated discussion of a substantive philosophical essay by an audience of 15-30 students and scholars. The presenter's paper provides the basis for his or her opening remarks and the context for the discussion that follows, which is organized and overseen by a moderator. All seminar participants are expected to have a systematic grasp of Objectivism and be capable of participating in advanced philosophical discussions.
The Advanced Seminar will be held June 26-29, 2002, immediately prior to
TOC's Summer Seminar conference, at the University of California in Los
Angeles (UCLA). Participants should plan to arrive by the evening of June 26
and may depart at any time on June 29 (or stay for the Summer Seminar).
There will be six sessions in total, and seven presentations. For more

Advanced Seminar Application
Common Topics:
- Concepts and language
- The meaning and epistemology of axioms
- The relationship between reason and emotion
- Moral psychology (e.g. issues of character, virtue, integrity)
- Political theory
- Comparison of Rand with prominent historical figures (e.g. Greek, Scholastic, or Enlightenment figures).
- Critical surveys of contemporary philosophical literature on relevant issues (e.g virtue ethics, possible-worlds theory, intuitionism).
